A Lighting Education Forum was held at QUT on Wednesday 14th July. The aim of the Forum was to obtain feedback from employers in the lighting industry around the Brisbane region related to the QUT post-graduate lighting course - does it meet the needs of employers, and are there any topics that employers would like to see receive more emphasis within the course. While only five industry people were able to attend the evening event, there was a very lively and fruitful discussion about the needs of lighting education today, and what sort of knowledge and experience employers would like graduates of the course to have. A/Prof Ian Cowling commenced the discussion with a short presentation on the structure of the PH82 Master of Lighting program, and how it is delivered. The course has been going now for nearly 6 years and by the end of 2010 about 200 students will have undertaken some part of the course, and there will be close to 100 students who will have graduated with a Master of Lighting qualification. This includes the off-shore course delivered in Hong Kong, as well as international students from all over the Asia region and beyond.
