摘要

Improvement of methods to reduce scale formation in boiler systems, especially by the introduction of phosphate-based stabilizers in the thirties, caused enhanced problems with corrosion, especially in thermally stressed parts of such systems due to a lack of protective covers formerly consisting mainly of carbonates and sulfates of calcium and magnesium. These problems mainly arise from reactions of the metallic surfaces, being protected by thin oxide layers only, with water and/or steam and their ingredients. Especially oxygen, dissolved in the raw water, is a most unwanted compound, since it leads to corrosive attack even at very low concentrations.
