The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is the United States' longest and highest narrow gauge adhesion-worked railroad. Purchased jointly by the states of New Mexico and Colorado in 1970, the line crosses the state line eleven times and reaches 10,015 feet above sea level during the 64 mile journey.
