One freezing cold night last January 1 made an overnight journey for a meeting in Poznan, which also constituted my first visit to Poland. Although it was hoped that a glimpse of steam might be possible, being aware that locos from the museum depot at Wolsztyn were used for turns into Poznan, I was quite unprepared for its normal, everyday nature. What I found after stepping off the 'Bern' was an ordinary mucky steam train simmering in an adjacent platform. Nobody was taking the slightest bit of notice, the station being busy with commuters on their way to work.
