The gallery of locomotive photographs illustrating these brief notes has one common theme: the engines all sport ten driving wheels; most are 2-10-0s, but there is a peppering of variations, 0-10-2, 2-10-2 etc. Generally, 'decapod' has referred to the 2-10-0 type, but even that is a misnomer since this 'decapod' actually has twelve feet; dodekapod would be pure pedantry, however. So, for the purposes of this survey, the term is interpreted broadly here, a slight rail upon which to hang some illustrations acquired over the years.
