Software developers work on the fastest PCs available and assume the rest of us do too. Each new release of a Windows application requires even more system resources than its predecessor -and runs slower. 1-2-3 release 2.x for DOS sprinted on a 286 computer with 1MB of hard disk space and 640K of memory. Release 5.0 for Windows lumbers along on a 386 with 4MB of memory and takes 11MB of disk space. And if you're doing any serious computing, you'll be a lot happier with 8MB of memory on a 486 or a Pentium. But before you shell out for more hardware, you can coax 1-2-3 for Windows into giving you dramatically better performance simply by changing a few work habits and optimising Windows.
