Those who grip the wheels, hit the brake pedals and work the levers and light switches in finished lubricant pricing will agree that the ride over the past two decades has been a hair-raising one. Many tell me they have seen enough ups and downs in pricing to make most knuckles white. Yet among the nerve-wracking twists and hairpin turns were stretches when pricing activity fell spookily silent. Some of these times, like that recently seen, are the most challenging because they provide little to no indication of what's around the corner.
