Global base oil capacity now exceeds 1 million barrels per day, and the share of API Group I has slipped below 50 percent. With this issue, print-edition subscribers to Lubes'n'Greases received the completely updated 2013 Guide to Global Base Oil Refining, our annual map of the world's key base oil refineries and rerefineries. Digital subscribers in the United States and Canada are being mailed a copy, too. Senior Editor Michele Persaud, working with LNG's editors and our collaborators at Pathmaster Marketing Ltd., calculates that global base oil capacity rose a hefty 6 percent in the past year. Group I is still the industry's workhorse, but the surge in Groups Ⅱ/Ⅲ will continue, the guide's chart of upcoming expansions shows. More than 107,000 b/d of new capacity around the world, all Groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ, is due to stream in the next two years alone - and lots more is on the drawing board.
