Shipping rates have plunged, rnand experts predict some ship owners will not survive the recession. While the global base oil trade sees lower freight rates, the shipping crisis has put great stress on the marine lubricant industry.rnThat's a far cry from 2007, when international seaborne trade was floating high, shipyards were operating at full tilt, and marine lubricant demand seemed determined to out-race supply. Back then, marine lubricant costs were also swelling, buoyed by the rising demand as well as raw material prices.
