Just like the ebb and flow of the ocean, the ups and downs of pricing alongside tight versus plentiful supply are a natural occurrence in the base oils sector. One can certainly appreciate how this natural phenomenon echoes throughout everyday business. Base oils players have endured a huge wave of high pricing and supply uncertainty this year. But a most-welcome change appears to be finally coming ashore. In the naphthenics sector, there are signs that availability of most grades has improved. The slight build in pale oils led the way for a round of price decreases, in the amount of 20 cents per gallon, which was largely implemented during the first two weeks of October. These deductions are the first downward movement the segment has seen so far this year.
