Green Toys Inc., San Francisco, worked closely with bioplastic producer Cereplast Inc., Hawthorne, Calif., and PolyOne to ensure dyes would give bioplastic toys vibrant hues and break down when composted. Synthetic dyes in biodegradable plastics don't break down.
