Give your laptop a boost with a Solid State Disk (SSD). The MacBook Air caused a flutter when it appeared, not just because of its size, but because one of the build options offered as standard in the top-spec model (or for an extra ?90 in the entry-level model) was the SSD. Though it looks like a standard 2.5in hard drive, inside an SSD you'll find no moving parts, just a piece of NAND flash memory similar to that you might find inside a USB stick, or the card in a digital camera. In many SSDs this memory is of the multilevel cell (MLC) type, which is cheaper to make, though results in higher power consumption.
