Intel's Developer Forum (IDF) ran from 19-21 August, and much of what Intel talked about at the event is likely to influence the future of your Mac. According to Apple's processor partner, the future is going to be centered on both consumer electronics and the internet. It will be parallel-processed, thanks to the introduction later this year of a new multi-core, multithreading microprocessor architecture that Intel's marketing department now calls Core i7, but which the geeks at IDF still referred to by its code name, Nehalem. Intel elaborated on a few of Nehalem's capabilities and updated its delivery timeline: late 2008 for high-end desktops and servers, and by the third quarter of 2009 for mainstream desktops and mobile platforms.
