Another iPhone bug has emerged, this time one that may endanger the security of the iPhone's owner. The problem lets unauthorised users access persona! data held on an iPhone that has been protected using a passcode. The flaw lets anyone sidestep passcode locking by simply tapping Emergency Call on the password-entry screen, then double-tapping the Home button. By default a double-tap of the Home button brings up the iPhone's Favourites - a list of frequently called contacts, including their phone numbers and addresses. If any of the contacts have associated email or web addresses, the trick allows access to the email application and Safari browser, respectively. The bug also affects the iPod touch. "The minor iPhone security issue is fixed in a software update which will be released in September," said Apple spokesperson Jennifer Bowcock.
