The article is devoted to the problem of designing of the clothes,considering compositional features of the models and physical and mechanical characteristics of the materials.The influence of the following characteristics of the fabric on the shape of the clothes is studied: raw material components,interweaving,thickness,weight,rigidity,drapeability.As a result of the conducted experimental researches,the above mentioned properties of the materials used in the samples of the dress fabrics were measured and interdependences between the indicated indicators were determined.According to the results of the conducted experimental researches the samples of the dress fabrics were divided in principle into 3 groups due to their draping qualities.According to the results of the construction of the mockups of the volants and the expert evaluation of the mockups' appearance in pictures,the recommendations as to the angle of cutting of decorative elements for each group were developed.
