Recent research has demonstrated the presence of various medically active compounds in the plant, Senna auriculata plant has a long tradition of use in local medicine, with the leaves, flowers, seeds, roots, and bark all being utilized. Extracts of dried flowers have shown significant hypoglycaemic effect, supporting the traditional use of the plant as a treatment for diabetes. However, limited study is reported of its application in textiles as finishing agent. This study has been undertaken to apply flowers of Senna auriculata bio extract on woven cotton textiles for antibacterial and mosquito repellent finish. With a view to understand the effect of various functional groups present in the plant, molecular characterisation was done using FTIR. Chemical groups responsible for antibacterial behaviour and mosquito repellency were investigated through GCMS. Zone of inhibition in treated fabrics reveal that the antibacterial effect is potent against gram negative bacteria. Senna auriculata treated fabric has exhibited mosquito repellency property. It increases with the increase in concentration of the extract solution on the treated fabric.
