The effect of licker-in speed, cylinder speed and setting between flat-cylinder on fibre openness of cotton card sliver has been studied using the Box and Behnken's 3-variable factorial design method. In this experimental work, effect of different level of openness of fibres has been correlated with ring yarn characteristics. It is observed that total imperfection constantly decreases with increase in openness of fibres with reverse trend regarding hairiness of yarn. Yarn unevenness initially decreases with increase in openness up to 19.25. Further increase in openness leads to increase in unevenness in yarn might be due to over processing of fibres. Tenacity first gradually increases with increase in fibre openness then further increase in fibre openness beyond the certain limit gives decrease in tenacity of yarn.
