Filtration properties of filter fabric are important for the study of its filtration behavior. Generally two types of fabrics are used for the filtration viz. woven and non-woven. But both of them having some disadvantages regarding their performance in filtration such as clogging of filter media, less flow rate, early cake formation on layer of the filter fabric and difficult to clean the filter fabric. These disadvantages of non-woven filters are minimized by using knitted filter fabric; therefore, it efficiently performs as filtration media as compare to woven and non-woven filter fabric. The filtration behavior differs with respect to different types of fabrics. The main factors governing the differences in filtration behavior of fabrics are structure and dimensional properties. In this paper, the filtration property of the knitted and non-woven filter fabric with different derivatives such as single pique, double pique, honey comb for knitted and needle punched for non-woven filter fabric were evaluated. Further, filtration behavior was measured to decide the flow rate of filtrate from filter media.
