摘要

The surface of textiles offers an important platform for functional modifications in order to meet special requirements for a variety of applications. The surface modification of textiles may be achieved by various techniques ranging from traditional solution treatment to plasma technology. Plasma is a partially ionised gas generated by an electrical discharge or high temperature and also referred as the fourth aggregation state of matter. Plasma is of different types based on the type of gases, pressure, temperature and source of energy and is mainly about surfaces. They change the properties of any surface with which they come into contact. Surface activation by plasma is referred to as chemical grafting. Plasma-finishing in textile technology is very promising because of the varied benefits it offers. The paper gives a brief overview on the various modifications incorporated in the cotton textile materials by the plasma treatment.
