A Study on Uni-axial Loading of Jute Fabric

摘要

Application of load along the principal axis (i.e along warp or weft) of a woven fabric is known as uni axial tensile loading. Loading causes extension of threads to take place along the direction of application of load. The extension at the initial stages is largely due to de-crimping and re-crimping (increment of crimp towards transverse thread direction) of the yarns. Along with this fibre extension and yarn compression also occur which influences the geometrical and structural change of fabric parameters. Peirce reported the earliest study on the uni-axial properties of fabrics from the view point of the geometrical analysis of the weave structure. Many other workers have done much useful research work and a great amount of useful information has been obtained, but there is no reported work describing the complete range with gradual extension in the fabric. In the present work the actual geometrical change such as warp and weft yarn diameter, major and minor axis and thread spacing are determined for gradual change in fabric extension under loaded condition.
