摘要

Once again it's that time of the year when festivities are at its peak. As I write this piece, I can hear the drum beats moving with the procession for Ganapati Visarjan. People are at their religious best. Seemingly, because they are also at their material best. As one of my friends had rightly said "We are living in the age of materialism; but we are running out of materials". Makes me pause and think.... Speaking of materials, the festive season actually leaves behind a pile of wasted material. In all forms and at all places. These include the biodegradable as well as the non-biodegradable waste. Moreover, unlike the West, we do not have a foolproof system yet to segregate the different types of waste for respective treatments. However, many people have adopted different system of recycling] in their own special ways. Like. one sees the recycling of garlands and coconuts from the temple back to the shops selling these very items at big shrines!
