Providing thermal insulation has been one of the most challenging issues since long. Ceramic fibers have found significant place among the available insulation materials. Ceramic fibres have shown potential to replace even asbestos. Ceramic bulk material is very rigid and brittle in nature, selection of suitable modifiers can play a very important role in enhancing the spinnability and flexibility of the fibres. In this paper some novel applications, advantages and future potential of ceramic fibres have been described along with different types and techniques of manufacturing ceramic fibres.
