摘要

The physical and mechanical properties of some locally manufactured polyester textured yarns (with different linear densities) have been investigated. Properties studied include: linear density, moisture regain, bulk ratio, crimp contraction, stretch and recovery potential. Tensile properties such as tenacity, breaking extension, specific work of rupture and initial Young's modulus were also investigated at five different gauge lengths using the Instron tensile tester. The results obtained show that tenacity, breaking extension and work of rupture decrease with increasing gauge length. This is attributable to the 'weak-link' effect. The tensile properties with the exception of breaking extension also increased with increasing linear density. The breaking extension decreased with increasing linear density.
