One of the most recent development for this market is from Rieter Automotive: Rie-Lour 1782 is a cost-effective needlepunch carpet that is entirely latex-free - a significant environmental advantage. The manufacturer also claims Rie-Lour 1782 has increased resistance to wear. There are a variety of abrasion tests used to assess wear resistance of needlelpunch carpets, including both the Taber and Schopper tests, and the new Rie-Lour needlepunch products showed a consistently higher wear resistance compared with moulded carpets in typical mid-priced vehicles.
