This article discusses the new concept for fibre production and spunless technology for micro-denier bicom-ponent split fibres. With bicomponent technology, microfibres can be produced which are either obtained by splitting, by hydroentanglement or by removing one of the components by dissolving or melting. Bicomponent technique allows the production of much finer fibres than direct homopolymer spinning technology. A major disadvantage of the solvent technology (sea and island) as compared to splitting technology by hydroentanglement is that the sea component with a usual share of 20-30% of the web weight is lost which additionally increases the production cost of the fibre. In spulness technology fibre sliting and bonding of the web is achieved by efficient energy transfer from high pressure (400-600 bar) in to speed and impulse of the water jet.
