摘要

Wool is the fibre from fleece of domesticated sheep. It is a natural, protein, multicellular, staple fibre. Among the different kind of animal fibres used by the textile industry, wool from sheep is commercially the most important due to its inherent unique properties. The natural crimp gives bulkiness and warmth. Scales help in felting the elastic behaviour and hygroscopicity of wool fibre makes it suitable for utilization in knit wares, suiting and shirting's. The wool fibre has an affinity for almost all natural and synthetic colouring matters. Wool dyeing may be carried out on loose fibres, stubbing yarn and piece. Animal fibres readily absorb alum, copper and iron mordants which improve the light and wash fastness of most dye colours. Some mordants are used to increase the amount of mordant taken up by the fibre. The Marigold flowers of T. erecta variety mainly contain the flavanol querecetagetol, which is a derivative of quercetol. It is accompanied by two of its glucosides and lutenine (A carotinoid). It also contains patuletol and some ellagic acid, which serves as a mordant. It dyes wool in a variety of deep and fast colours with different mordants. Quercetol is the colouring principle in Marigold. Therefore this study is undertaken to get still more variety of shades from Marigold by combining different mordants in different proportions.
