摘要

Mankind has been fascinated by color since the dawn of civilization. Until the discovery of synthetic dyes, the plant and animal kingdom provided all the materials for coloring. Natural dyes have been a part and parcel of man's life, since time immemorial. Home dyeing, is a very old occupation, which has not lost its appeal for the modern craftsmen. Nowadays, natural dyes bring the good value for coloring garments. Since they are eco-friendly naturally available and giving no harm to the environment and the effluents created after the application on textiles for coloration gives less pollution. The fruits like grape are used in both domestic and industrial purposes for making soft drinks and other consuming uses. However, after extracting the juice from the grape, the solid residues are not being considered and are disposed. From the literature, it was seen that grape skin has been giving good colors on protein materials like silk and wool. Hence, in this work, it is decided to utilize the waste grape skin for the application on protein textiles such as silk and wool in combination with other similar natural resources like pomegranate rind, orange rind and annatto seed. From this study it is observed that the results such as colors obtained, fastness towards rubbing, light, heat and washing are very much convincing.
