摘要

The location of Indian wools of different types is illustrated. Spinnability of Indian wools on worsted system is discussed with practical data. An elaborate SWOT analysis of Indian carpet wools is then presented. It has been shown that wools produced in the Indo-Gangetic plains produce wools that contain heterotype and hairy fibres along with true wool fibres - an ideal mixture from the viewpoint of pile carpets. Detailed morphology of medullated fibres is illustrated which reveals the honeycombed array of medullar cells that are responsible for resiliency of carpet wools. SWOT analysis of Indian wools from other end use point of view e.g. durries, floor mats, tweeds, coating, shawls and blankets is then given and their scope for use in technical textiles is indicated with an example of cigarette filters and air filters from canary coloured wools.
