摘要

The dyeing properties of henna has been known since civilisation began. It was used to dye hair, skin and leather. Wool and silk were at sometimes dyed by it. The work studied the dyeing properties of henna on nylon 6,6 fabric. The results were astonishing. The dyeing mechanism proved to be acid catalysed, justifying the classification of the dye as an acid dye. Both the plain and mordanted dyeings recorded very excellent wash-fastness ratings. Similarly the dyed samples could not be stripped either by 10% pyridine or by 10% DMF at the boil; this suggested high affinity.
