Trevor Lewis, managing director of SSI, con-gratulates MCS on being the sustained voice of the IT industry over a decade when manufacturing operations have changed almost beyond recognition. It must have taken some doing, he says, given the scale and scope of change, but what MCS has brought to the party is thoughtful analysis and clarity on ever-developing best practice and IT, both in terms of operations and strategy. Although the economic shifts of the past decade have clearly affected the whole of manufacturing, Lewis believes the impact has been uneven. While everyone has been hit by global competition and the emergence of low-cost offshore production, newer demands, like regulatory compliance, have been felt in some sectors far more strongly than in others. There has, therefore, been an inevitable knock-on in the technology that supports them. Over the last 10 years it has become emphatically clear that one size cannot fit all, he says.
