This report analyses the market for large cooking appliances in Belgium. The market is measured in terms of retail sales. Retail sales of large cooking appliances include both replacement sales and new sales ie repurchases of the same product and first-time buyer sales. Retail sales also include sales of fitted appliances through fitted-kitchen sales and sales to the building industry for installation in new housing units. Sales to industrial and foodservice users are excluded, as are second-hand sales. The large cooking appliances market includes gas or electric, freestanding or built-in cookers, ovens, hobs and cooker hoods. The sector breakdown is as follows: 1. Cookers: Western-style cookers are normally floor-standing appliances with oven, grill and hot plate facilities; 2. Ovens: usually double ovens with two cavities, some circulate heat with a fan ie a fan oven; 3. Hobs: a hotplate with four areas for heating saucepans and other vessels, sold as a separate item not attached to a cooker; 4. Cooker hoods: includes canopy, standard, integrated, telescopic and chimney hoods; includes vents. Breakdowns are given for built-in and freestanding appliances by sector. Additional product subsectorisation is provided for: 1. Cookers by gas/electric split. 2. Ovens by standard/multifunction split: "standard" relates to conventional ovens which include standard cooking functions (maximum of three); "multifunction" relates to ovens which perform a variety of functions as well as the standard (minimum of four), including bake, fan bake, grill, fan grill, defrost, rotisserie etc. 3. Ovens by single-door/double-door (eg a main conventional oven door with a second glass fascia door) split. 4. Hobs by gas/standard electric/mixed/vitroceramic/induction split: vitroceramic glass is glass which has been treated in the same way as ceramic, it does not expand and is a poor conductor of heat; with induction, the heat is generated directly in the base of the pan, so no unused storage heat is produced and the energy is used to the optimum.
