This report examines the French retail market for QSR — Quick-Service Restaurants. The market comprises stand-alone restaurants and eating places in which the consumer can freely choose to eat. It also includes units in "semicaptive" environments (such as leisure, travel and retail establishments, and hotels) where, thanks to contractual agreements negotiated by the management, customers' choice of units is limited to some degree. Units that serve a "captive" population in institutions such as hospitals, schools, prisons are not included. This is because the market is not the general public but rather the population located within the business, service or institution in which the outlet is located. The captive foodservice market is covered in a separate Euromonitor report, together with a further analysis of the semicaptive market as there is an overlap in terms of market contenders.
