This report describes the structures and magnetic properties of bulk FePt/Fe3Pt nanocomposite magnets prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) processing of FePt/Fe3Pt nanocomposites created from a block copolymer template. The density of a sintered sample at 590 degrees C was 14.9 g/cm(3), which is almost the same as the theoretical density of FePt, suggesting that the sample was completely sintered. X-ray diffraction results suggest that SPS processing yielded highly ordered FePt without substantial grain growth. The magnetic energy product, (BH)(max), increased from 9.5 to 11.8 MGOe after SPS processing. The shape of the magnetization curve for the sample sintered at 590 degrees C exhibits a high squareness ratio, suggesting the presence of highly ordered L1(0) FePt, in agreement with the XRD results.
