IrO_2-RuO_2 thin film was deposited on plasma sprayed TiO_2 buffer layer above Ti metal by the sol-gel and dip-coating method. Organic vehicle (ethyl cellulose) and lead borosilicate glass frit were added to improve the corrosion resistance of the films. Taguchi method and L_(18)(2~1 X 3~7) orthogonal arrays were evaluated in terms of current density to determine the optimal combination of the experimental parameters having the properties of the bigger the better (QC= B). The observed conditions were as follows: ethyl cellulose (0.1 Pa.s), drying temperature and time (170 deg C, 20 min), heat treatment temperature and time (750 deg C, 10 min), the weight ratio of IrO_2-RuO_2 powder to glass flit (99:5), final heat treatment time (120 min) and flow rate of air (5 standard cubic centimeter per minute, scc m), respectively. The current density of the films increased, as the weight ratio of the IrO_2-RuO_2 powder to glass flit decreased from 99:1 to 95:5, by 150 percent due to the reduction in crack density, suggesting that the addition of glass flit was effective on improving anticorrosion properties and surface microstructure of the dip-coated IrO_2-RuO_2 films.
