Novel chemical filter using PET film support

Main required performances for a chemical filter are high removal efficiency, long life, low pressure drop and low out gas. We prepared the chemical filter composed of activated carbon or cation-exchange beads which were bound with polyurethane foam by adhesive. We examined two activated carbons whose shapes were bead-shaped and granular, respectively, and the cation-exchange beads whose average diameter was varied from 0.6 to 0.3 mm. The performance of the bead-shaped activated carbon is, however, similar to that of the granular one. We replaced the support material from polyurethane foam to polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) film because polyurethane foam is not pure to cause out gas. Using PET film, we had to design the different structure of chemical filter from traditional one. The performances of novel chemical filter using PET were better than those of the former one.
