This special issue on Additive Manufacturing is composed of invited articles highlighting the state of the art of the intersection of additive manufacturing and mechanics of metallic materials. Additive manufacturing (AM) is a rapidly evolving field, having potential application in a wide range of areas, spanning biomedical, industrial, defense, and transportation industries. However, gaps in the understanding of links among processing, structure, and properties in additively manufactured materials, as well as issues related to predictability of performance of these components, are currently limiting the adoptability of AM for structural applications. This special issue includes research focused on identifying processing-structure-property links in additively manufactured metals as well as methods for characterizing and modeling these links.
