摘要

The quantitative dependence of strength on the shape and orientation of precipitates in magnesium alloys was investigated based on a new cuboid-shaped precipitate model in the present work. Calculations suggest the cuboid model is more comprehensive and appropriate for estimating the strengthening response of precipitate than the cylindrical model. Compared with the basal precipitates, the prismatic precipitates and (0001} rods are more beneficial for alloy strengthening. Moreover, the strengthening response of {10T0} prismatic plate-shaped particle is different from that of {1210} prismatic particle. The longer basal rod-shaped precipitate is expected to provide higher strength increment when considering the effect of precipitate dimension variation.
