As anatomical data from. com-puter-tomography and other scans of the human body are incorporated in solid-modeling systems, manufacturers of orthopedic implants are creating customized designs for patients with similar characteristics. While the integration of such data with solid-modeling software offers new ways to meet patients' needs, it also offers orthopedic-implant manufacturers the chance to redesign their product-development processes for managing the many different design configurations as well as for developing and manufacturing new products more quickly.
