This writer noticed with interest the recent paper by Guo and Li [1 ]; in particular, he was mainly attracted by a part of their strategy to identify structural damaged sites. However, the current state of the manuscript did not allow this reader to obtain the relevant findings through the methods described in [1].The main reasons of this letter are, therefore, aimed at (i) trying to obtain the results of Ref. [1] and (ii) stimulating a scientific discussion aimed at making any step forward in the relevant area.The strategy of the authors [1] is essentially allocated in two main steps: (i) firstly a reduced set of potential damaged sites is identified (among all those available in a FE scheme) and (ii) secondly, a genetic algorithm (three types adopted in the manuscript) is applied to calculate the damage extent.
