Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) is not really a new discipline; it has been present from the very beginning of the development of modal testing and analysis going back to the sixties and early seventies.rnIn those days, the term "Operational Modal Analysis" was not common, OMA testing was mainly denoted "ambient response" testing and was solely used for testing of large civil engineering structures. On such structures it was difficult to perform good vibration measurements due to noise and synchronization problems, and performing identification mainly relied on looking at spectral densities-what one would call Operational Deflection Shape (ODS) analysis nowadays. Because of the shortcomings of OMA back in those days, the approach was not really accepted as a reliable source of information.
