摘要

Whilst I agree that health inequities are breaches of human rights which are unjust, shocking and inhumane, my disagreement with Dr King's perspective is due to the fact that health inequalities cannot be considered as a standalone concept. To argue that they are the most shocking and inhumane is to differentiate health from other inequalities such as wealth and poverty. With our knowledge of the social determinants of health, it is evident that inequalities across all sectors can contribute towards health inequity. To truly address health inequity across the globe, a health in all policy approach should be utilized and there is a moral imperative for global actors and nation states to work towards health, not only within nations, but also globally. Health cannot be reduced to a solely biological viewpoint in the endeavour to reach equity and in order to fulfil individuals human rights we must face the determinants of health from the individual up to the global level.
