Brightener concentration, textile make-up and conditions of the exposure equipment have only a slight or insignificant effect on the fastness to light of optically brightened cotton fabric. With the exception of wet cross-linking, the finishes that were tested here, such as softening (cationic softener), resin finishing (dry and wet cross-linking), and water and oil-repellency (fluorocarbon finish) have only slight or no effects on the fastness to light of optically brightened woven cotton fabrics. Pre-tests should first be carried out to determine which flame-retardants are suitable for white goods and have only a slight effect on whiteness. White goods that were finished with a suitable flame-retardant showed only a slight decrease in fastness to light.
