The productivity of any mechanical production system is decreased by necessary repairs caused by e.g. wear-related failures. Because the machine has to stop in case a machine component such as a bearing fails, production slows down until the machine has been repaired. The deadlines for the production will be at risk because of the unexpected stop. In addition the downtime results in a loss for the company. The failure of machine parts is mostly unpredictable if the part is not continually monitored. The time needed until the machine is repaired is usually longer than the actual time needed to replace the broken component. This is the motivation to install condition monitoring systems, which automatically track the condition of the components and predict a possible failure. This system is especially useful for textile production, because the product is created at high speeds. In consequence, a small delay in production has a significant impact on the profit. The concept of just-in-time-maintenance is aimed at preventing the maintenance-related delays as much as possible.
