The current report of the consulting company The Fiber Year GmbH, Speicher/Switzer-land, illustrates the widening gap between production and consumption. The contribution of the 10 largest producing countries in natural fibers, man-made fiber and spun-bond manufacturing has been analyzed over a period from 2005 until 2013. While the global production volume has increased from 74 million to 95 million tons in that period the share of the 10 largest manufacturing countries has improved from 78% to 86%. Meanwhile, the average annual growth rate of consumption within this group of countries merely rose less than 1 % to reach almost 52 million tons in 2013. The forecast in national demand takes into consideration the recent consumption level in the period 2009 to 2013, GDP growth rates from 2014 to 2020, the current income category and demographic development.
