摘要

Recently, natural fibers have come back to their glory in various techno-com-mercial applications because of their biocompatibility, biodegradability, non-toxicity, harmless production and processing and abundance. Cotton is always a pioneer for apparel manufacturing since birth. Though various synthetic and man-made fibers have been invented, still a proper substitute for it has not been obtained. Akund floss is such a seed fiber that has visual resemblance with kapok and some superior properties that can compete as a cotton substitute. In this article the characteristics, origin, spin ability, mechanical properties, and moisture absorption behavior of akund floss fiber are reviewed and reported.
