A report by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) predicts an increase in yarn production of approx. 7 % for the current fiscal year. This is due mainly to healthy demand from apparel and fabric manufacturers. Individually, cotton yarn output is expected to rise by 10% while synthetic yarn should increase by about 3 %. In spite of the rise in yarn production, apparel exports are expected to fall by around 2 %. Poor demand from Europe and the USA due to slow economic growth, and strong competition from other Asian markets is expected to influence levels of export.
