The textile manufacturer Schoeller GmbH, Bregenz/Austria, has become one of the few spinning companies worldwide to receive a license for processing polybenzimidazol fibers from the manufacturer of fibers and polymers PBI Performance Products, Inc., Charlotte, NC/USA. Polybenzimidazol (PBI) is a high-performance fiber for flame-retardant garments that are used for jackets worn by firefighters in the USA. PBI fibers are highly heat- and flame-retardant as well as chemical-resistant, soft to the touch and easy to process. PBI Gold fulfils all the requirements laid down by the NFPA and EN 469 (as well as the German HuPF standard).
