Im Zeitalter der Globalisierung gilt es, durch Innovation, Qualität und Effizienzsteigerung den Standort Deutschland zu sichern. Dies betrifft insbesondere die heimische Textilindustrie, die unter einem enormen Kostendruck aus Fernost steht. Die Textilerzeugung und -Veredlung in Deutschland ist gezwungen, sich durch Hightech-Produkte von der Billig-Konkurrenz abzuheben. Teilweise sind neue Produktionsverfahren zwangsläufig mit Emissionen behaftet, die durch auf-wändige Anlagentechnik auf die Grenzwerte nach TA-Luft gereinigt werden müssen. Dass diese Zusatzinvestition kein Nachteil für die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit sein muss, zeigt das Beispiel der Schmitz-Werke GmbH & Co KG, Emsdetten.%In this age of globalization, it is essential to secure the future of Germany as an industrial site through innovation, quality and enhanced efficiency. This applies in particular to the domestic textile industry, which finds itself under enormous cost pressure from competitors in the Far East. Producers and finishers of textiles in Germany are forced to distinguish themselves from the low-cost competition by high-tech products. In part, new production processes are inevitably afflicted with emissions that must be cleaned by means of elaborate systems technology to meet the limiting values of the German "TA-Luft" (Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control). The fact that this additional investment does not necessarily have to be detrimental to competitiveness is illustrated by the example of Schmitz-Werke of Emsdetten/Germany.
