Xstrata has shut the roaster at its Nikkelverk refinery in Norway after an explosion there on February 1 killed one worker, a company spokesman told MB sister publication AMM. "Metal production was initially affected on the day of the incident, but has since returned to normal," hesaid. "The local team is making a plan to be able to run the production for all metals at the normal rate while the roaster is out of operation," he added. The explosion occurred at around 2:30 pm local time at the 85,000 tpy facility in Kristiansand, which refines nickel, cobalt, copper and precious metals.
