Here at LaSalle Steel, we used to run our accounting applications on a main- frame computer because of our high transaction volume, typically 5000 to 7000 documents per month. However, since changing to a new, PC-based system, we can process these transactions as efficiently as we did on the mainframe. The system also provides improved efficiency by eliminating the need to have an MIS (management information systems) operator involved and waiting for the queue of mainframe batch processing tasks to be completed. Also, report turnaround time has been greatly enhanced.
